It’s not an overstatement to say that our Lord Jesus Christ’s whole mission was to witness to the Father and proclaim His Kingdom. The entranceway to that Kingdom is repentance from sin and belief in the Gospel message.

When He taught His disciples (us) to pray, He incorporated that witness and proclamation into the greatest prayer ever given to mankind. It bears His Father’s name: the Our Father, and when we pray it, we are incorporated into the very family of God.

This is why we must pray constantly for a renewal of the traditional family unit in our country: a life-long marital commitment between one man and one woman raising as many children as God wants for the Father’s Kingdom.

I don’t know if most people think about this basic truth: marriage and family are divine institutions. God is passionately interested in the strength of these institutions not only because they give Him glory when we live them according to His will, but also because they make for strong and stable societies.

Disastrous re-definitions of marriage in recent decades and the broken family unit are the source of so many evils in our country and in our world.

We are family – God’s family! Let us meditate on that blessed reality of our Christian faith. God has “destined us for adoption to himself through Jesus Christ, in accord with the favor of his will” (Ephesians 1:5).

Want to get a good sense of the sentiment with which Jesus delivered this precious prayer to His disciples 2000 years ago?

Take a few moments to listen to this incredible rendition of the Lord’s Prayer, chanted by a priest from the country of Georgia and his choir. They sing it in the original language of the Lord Himself: Aramaic. It is stunning.

As you listen, pray for America’s families.
